Overview
Following the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq, reconstruction efforts have been made to restore the country's infrastructure, albeit hampered by continuing unrest. The economy is still dominated by the oil sector, which traditionally provides 95% of foreign exchange earnings.
GAC operates in the country's ports via a dedicated subagent, including Umm Qasr and Basrah Oil Terminal, with locally based staff coordinated by GAC Kuwait. The operation is supported by the Group's offices in neighboring countries, which serve as important entry points for Iraq business.
In March 2003, the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP) appointed GAC as its port agent in the Middle East, handling WFP aid shipments to Iraq.
