Overview
Turkey is strategically positioned at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, stretching from the Balkans in south-east Europe to Western Asia. It shares borders with Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iraq. It controls the Turkish Straits, which links the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
Turkey’s economy is no longer dominated by traditional agricultural activities, but by industrial complexes in major cities and the growing service sector. The tourism sector has experienced significant growth. Other key sectors of the economy include banking, construction, home appliances, electronics, textiles, oil refining, petrochemical products, food, mining, iron and steel, machine industry and automotive. Turkey also has a growing automotive industry, and is one of the world’s leading shipbuilding nations.
GAC has been active in the Turkish market since the 1960s, offering a full range of shipping and logistics services. As well as handling the documentation and liaison with local authorities, our staff handle crew changes, supplies of water and provisions, onboard medical emergencies and the receipt and clearance of spares. GAC Turkey employees also arrange appropriately qualified technicians when the need arises.
The Turkish terminal of Ceyhan is a discharge point for oil piped from Iraq. Like Atas, Aliaga, Ambarli, Derince and Tutunciftlik, it is also the site of an import terminal for crude or petroleum products. GAC employees assist tankers calling at all these terminals. We also handle vessels delivering humanitarian aid supplies on behalf of the United Nations World Food Programme, to recipient countries in nearby regions.
Excellent relations with the local authorities enable us to provide professional transit services to vessels passing through the Turkish Straits linking the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
GAC Turkey’s integrated logistics network covers all commercially important regions of Turkey. We offer a wide range of solutions to meet any freight forwarding and distribution needs. GAC Istanbul is the hub for air as well as sea and overland shipments, with excellent distribution channels not only to/from neighbouring countries but also to countries far beyond.
